3D printed Nike Vapor Ultimate Cleat was just released
After the 3D printed sports bag for 2014 World cup, Nike is surprising again on the 3D printing area. Last week Nike released the 3D printed Nike Vapor Ultimate Cleat that combines Nike Flyknit and Carbon V-plate technologies to create a super football cleat.
The Carbon V-plate is one of the most important features on the cleat as it allows for multi-directional acceleration, zero-slip traction and optimal ignition off the back foot – and it happened thanks to 3D printing as it helped to create shapes and designs that were not possible within the constraints of traditional manufacturing processes and also allowed to create prototypes rapidly.
“3-D printing revolutionized the way we design cleat plates – even beyond football. The process gives Nike the ability to accelerate innovation and create solutions that were not possible within the constraints of traditional manufacturing processes.” Ken Link, Nike Football Cleated Design Director
